For the nature lover, the seaside community of Sooke will not disappoint as there are many activities that are easily accessible. You can hike world renown trails in the Juan de Fuca Provincial Park or try your hand at sport fishing in the surrounding ocean. If you keep your eyes to the sea, you will surely see whales passing through. It is not uncommon to see Humpbacks, Grey Whales and Orca Whales. There is also plenty of opportunity for some fascinating bird watching, including watching the Bald Eagle in its natural habitat. For the more adventurous, you can hit the waves and go surfing or spend a day mountain biking, which is becoming more and more popular. There is much to explore in Sooke, from China Beach to the Sooke Potholes, you will never tire of the magnificent surroundings.

Sooke is home to renowned restaurants, art galleries and shops. This quaint seaside town is growing in popularity and for good reason. Known for its early First Nations inhabitants, Sooke preserves its history and you can explore the museum as well as Leechtown, one of the oldest settlements. Restaurants in the area offer the finest West Coast cuisine, many serving fresh local seafood.

Sooke is serviced by School District 62 Sooke. This growing school district represents over 10,000 students, offers dedicated athletic, international, and aboriginal programs and is comprised of 26 schools including 18 elementary, 4 middle, and 3 secondary schools.

Location

Sooke is located on the shores of the Juan De Fuca Strait approximately 45 kilometers west of Victoria. The scenic drive along West Coast Highway 14 is the main route to the town.
