Colwood's most prized destination is the Esquimalt Lagoon, a designated bird sanctuary and historic First Nations site. Within walking distance to the City Centre of Colwood, the Esquimalt Lagoon is a popular place for visitors who want to bird watch, swim, walk, dive or kayak. Bordered by Royal Roads University grounds as well as the national historic sites of Hatley Castle, Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse, the Lagoon is easily accessible.

Colwood’s growing population attributes to the diverse and expanding local economy. There are more than 500 businesses, including home-based businesses, in Colwood. Employment opportunities in Colwood are projected to increase by 83.7% by 2038 due to the growing population and businesses in the City of Victoria look to expand or relocated out of the downtown core.

Schools

Colwood falls within School District 62 which offers a number of excellent schools; 5 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and one senior school. There is also the area’s first Nature Preschool and Nature Kindergarten, both new innovative programs that take children out of the rigid classroom and into nature. Based on strong research that shows that children learn best when they are engaged and active, majority of their time is spent learning outdoors through exploration, discussion and play. Colwood is also home to two post-secondary schools, Camosun College and Royal Roads University, both boasting innovative programs that are designed for working professionals.
